Digital health literacy

Digital health literacy is the ability to understand, assess, and use health-related, digitally enabled information and technologies. This includes, for example, being able to independently assess and decide which digital options to use, which data to share with third parties, or how to manage health data collected through an app.

Digital Health Literacy

IN BRIEF

About the Project

Funding period: 15.03.2021 - 31.12.2023

Brief description: The Digital Health Literacy project aims to empower patients and citizens of different age groups and backgrounds to use digital health technologies, address existing concerns and fears, and increase the acceptance of quality-assured digital health applications. This is achieved through a mobile showroom that brings digital health technologies directly to citizens, for example in public spaces such as town squares.

Objectives/Outcomes:Strengthening the digital health literacy of citizens; a mobile showroom in the form of the “Digital Health Truck”; and permanent showrooms in Mannheim and Stuttgart.

Project partners: Digitale Gesundheit Baden-Württemberg e.V., Telemedicine Coordination Office Baden-Württemberg

The project “Promoting Digital Health Literacy among Patients and Citizens in Baden-Württemberg” focuses on implementing innovative, target-group-oriented educational and training programs.

It aims to empower patients and citizens of different age groups and backgrounds to use digital health technologies, address existing concerns and fears, and increase the acceptance of quality-assured applications. The programs offered by the Telemedicine Coordination Office Baden-Württemberg include digital and in-person formats as well as hands-on and co-design approaches, such as the Digital Health Truck and a showroom for digital technologies in healthcare.

A key focus of the project is to equip healthcare professionals as well as individuals from patient organizations, self-help groups, and volunteer networks with the skills needed to provide digital applications and services. These individuals are intended to serve as “digital guides,” particularly for vulnerable patient groups, and to become established as multipliers within the healthcare system.

Two permanent showrooms have also been established at our Stuttgart location at Bosch Health Campus, Hohenheimer Str. 21, and at our Mannheim location at Cubex One, Franz-Volhard-Straße 5. Visitors can explore and experience digital technologies and the healthcare system of the future firsthand at both locations.
