Full-time

Company description

The Robert Bosch Center for Tumor Diseases (RBCT) is a newly founded translational cancer research institute located on the Robert Bosch Health Campus in Stuttgart, Germany in direct proximity to the Robert Bosch Hospital (RBK) and the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology (IKP). The RBCT is also part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Stuttgart-Tübingen.

Our goal is to understand molecular principles determining therapeutic response and aggressiveness in inflammation-driven gastrointestinal tumors with the purpose of transforming patient treatment. The major focus of our work is on regulation of cellular identity through transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms.

Job description

Your tasks:

  • Participation in translational cancer research projects using state-of-the-art multidisciplinary molecular techniques including:
    • Standard wet laboratory methods such as cell culture, transfection, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene deletion and epigenetic editing, quantitative real-time PCR, western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP).
    • Advanced wet lab methods such as next generation library prep (for ChIP-seq, RNA-seq), chromatin interaction studies (HiC, HiChIP), nascent RNA analysis (ChRO-seq), genome sequencing, single cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq), etc.
    • Dry lab analyses (e.g. bioinformatic analysis and interpretation of NGS data).
    • Translational cancer models including immunohistological and molecular analysis of patient samples, patient-derived xenografts and organoid culture.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues to achieve a common goal of increased knowledge of molecular mechanisms and improved patient treatment.
  • Presentation of work at institutional, national and international meetings.
  • Preparation of scientific publications.

Requirements:

  • Passion for cancer research and multidisciplinary molecular mechanistic and translational studies.
  • Ability to work well in a highly diverse and international team.
  • Appropriate qualifications:
    • Completion of Ph.D. (or equivalent), or in some cases M.D. (Dr. med.)
    • Extensive experience demonstrated through the dissertation and publications in scientific journals.
  • Bioinformatic experience is highly beneficial for post-doc candidates, but not essential. An interest and willingness to learn such methods is essential at all levels.

What we offer:

We offer a highly unique opportunity to not only make a potential difference in the life of cancer patients, but to also gain proficiency in a wide variety of modern technologies rarely available in a single laboratory. Previous students from the host laboratories have all published multiple manuscripts in highly respected international journals and nearly all have stayed in science, with several already having faculty positions in academia or central positions in industry. We strive to make excellent mentorship a priority at every step of the career!
